At Free Car Mag we love drop tops, but half the battle is keeping them nice and dry whenn the fabric ones re up and there is  company that’s been doing that for over 60 years and really know what they are doing.

As we head into autumn and the wetter months, now is a good time for soft-top owners to give their roofs some extra care. After a summer of sunshine and UV exposure, fabric roofs can become faded and dry, while their water-repellent protection can gradually wear down.

With replacement soft tops typically costing between £400-£1200 depending on the make and model, keeping the fabric clean and well protected is a worthwhile part of convertible ownership. As the wetter weather sets in, maintaining water repellency can help the roof bead and shed water rather than allowing it to soak into the fabric.  Prolonged exposure to moisture can encourage mould, while eventually contributing to leaks and deterioration of the fabric.

This is where Fabsil comes in. Providing high-performance waterproofing and aftercare for over 50 years, its range is designed to clean, protect and reproof fabrics against the elements. Regular use can help to protect, care for and maintain soft-top roofs so they continue to look and perform their best for years to come.

The question is which convertibles would we choose in the office?

Mazda MX5 – Sporty Fun

This is the obvious choice if you love driving. You just can’t go wrong with what is a superb sports car that grips the road and yet is very practical. The hood is a one pull job so it could not be easier to live and there is a pretty decent boot too. Best of all there are lots around and they are great value.

Bentley Continental GTC – Lap of Luxury

Here you go, spoil yourself and show off at the same time. Sumptuously equipped with every extra you can imagine. The finish and quality is just as you would expect from such a luxurious package and prestigious name. Not much room in the back, but hey, this is not a minibus, it’s the most comfortable convertible that a fair amount of money, can buy.

Mercedes SLK – Brilliantly Blingy

Many will think that the best reason for buying an SLK is the metal roof. At the push of a button the roof moves seamlessly into place. Once there it is very refined and impressively quiet. Driving an SLK is good fun and the boot even with the roof packed away. If you want to press on the engines are very responsive.

MINI Convertible – Cute and practical

One button press is all it takes to remove the roof and that’s when the fun starts. The normal MINI is brilliant and the convertible is even better, it will make you smile. Quality is good and is very refined with the roof up. Buy one with the most extras you can afford, it will be worth it.

Audi A4 – Classy family fun

If you want to take more than one other out and about in the fresh air then the A4 is the way to do it, It has to be one of the most refined convertibles you can buy. Quiet and sophisticated and the level of quality is deeply impressive with a brilliant electric hood. Expensive when new, great value used.
