1. Start With the Space You Have

When shopping for garage lights, look at the lumen rating, which tells you how much visible light the fixture produces. As a starting point, aim for roughly 50 lumens per square foot for general garage lighting. If you’re doing detailed work, you may need closer to 300 lumens per square foot.
