Kiran Parmar reveals the smarter way to clean your car.
At Free Car Mag we love any product that makes our life easier, especially so when it comes to washing our cars, looking after the garden and outdoor areas.
This month we were delighted to test a brilliant product from Gardena, a German company that makes garden hoses, hose storage solutions, and various hose pipe attachments and cleaning products that range from watering your lawn, cleaning the patio, to washing your car.
Gardena’s ‘Cleansystem’ Wash Set with Handle and Soft Wash Brush is a user friendly and multipurpose product. With its 90 cm lightweight handle, you can reach areas high and low with ease. The wash brush head can rotate 360 degrees and will lock in 30-degree steps all round so you can position it in a horizontal or vertical position or somewhere in-between and it stays locked in place at your desired angle until you decide to change it.
You can even add a solid shampoo disks made by Gardena, so the brush head dispenses low foam soapy water with control at your fingertips as to how much shampoo you want dispensed. The shampoo reservoir has a build in washable filter to ensure no dirt or grime gets sucked into the system. Gardena’s shampoo disks are extremely easy to insert and give a pleasant mango scent as you start to wash. The reservoir is made of clear plastic so you can keep on eye on how much shampoo is left.
All you have to do is connect the hose to the ‘Cleansystem’ with one of Gardena’s quick adaptors, switch on the water at the garden tap and you are ready to go!
The bristles on the brush head are soft and have been specifically engineered for sensitive surfaces such as car paintwork, glass, plastic trim, window frames, garage doors, outdoor wooden furniture, greenhouses, sheds, ceramic or porcelain tiles, or fence panels.
I first used the ‘Cleansystem’ on an outdoor ice-pod bath and it certainly made light work of cleaning it. Without the ‘Cleansystem’ tool I would have had to use a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and be hunched over into the pod trying to scrub it clean in a back breaking, un-ergonomic position. With the Gardena tool, it was completely easy and pain free and I could even do it with one hand using my other hand to take a few snaps with my phone for this article!
Next, I used the ‘Cleansystem’ to clean my groundfloor windows. With the soft brush system, I was able to wash the UPVC frames and glass simultaneously and then dry the glass with a traditional squeegy blade.
Don’t be alamed if you dont seen a huge amount of foam coming out from the brush, the shampoo detergent is actually low foam but has enough cleaning power to scrub the surface clean. This makes your life easy when it comes to rinsing the soapy water away. The thumb lever near the handle allows you to swap between soapy water and pure water at a flick of a switch and the amount of water sent to the brush head is adjustable on both modes so you don’t end up splashing lots of unnecessary water on to your shoes and clothing!
If you are the sort of person who doesnt like the idea of brush bristles touching your cars paintwork but like the idea of a long handle brush to clean your car, there is a work around. We purchased a simple, inexpensive wash mitt cover from a well-known internet auction site that fits around the Gardena brush head perfectly and even has a drawstring to keep the wash mitt in place. If you prefer, you can use your own liquid car shampoo such as Turtlewax’s ‘Zipwax’ or ‘Cermaic Wash & Wax’, Autoglym’s ‘Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner’, or Farecla’s ‘High Shine Shampoo,’ the choice is yours! Simply pour your chosen liquid car shampoo into the reservoir. The Audi A6 Quattro, a vehicle which is a member of the Free Car Mag fleet, is ceremic coated so we used a dedicated shampoo that is designed for such paintwork. We noticed that the Gardena ‘Cleansystem’ Wash Set cuts down the time it takes to shampoo the vehicle, not to mention the act of frequently bending down to rinse a dirty sponge or wash mitt in a bucket of water is done away with, which you would normally have to do to when washing a car the old fashioned way. Perfect if you suffer with a bad back!
The Gardena ‘Cleansystem’ Wash Set is proudly made in Germany and comes with a five-year warranty upon registration of your product. We were really impressed with the build quality of Gardena’s products; when you connect the hose to the brush, adjust the thumb lever to neutral, or rotate the brush head there is a satisfying and reassuring ‘click,’ a sign of a well-made and well thought out product.
You can read more about the Gardena ‘Cleansystem’ here, plus there is a large selection of other brushes you can connect to the ‘Cleansystem’ for other cleaning applications.
Stay tuned to Free Car Mag as we will be reviewing more products from Gardena very soon.
