Ferrari’s legendary poster icon, the F40, has topped a poll to find out the best 10 supercars of all time, carried out by the organisers of The Fast Car Festival – a major new show set to take place at Donington Park, Derbyshire, on July 30-31, 2016.
Watch the brilliant video by Top Gear’s Chris as he compares two of the most outrageous Ferraris ever.
The F40, built to commemorate the brand’s 40th anniversary in 1988, was the last model to be signed off by company founder Enzo Ferrari himself before his death. It was, at the time, the fastest car in the world, and was said to be the closest thing possible to an F1 car for the road. It was also a sensational looking machine, and still is.
The F40 was crowned the top supercar in the survey, carried out through June 2016, taking 18 per cent of the total vote. The closest runners-up were the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren F1.
The top 10 supercars of all time were:
Ferrari F40
Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione
Ferrari La Ferrari
McLaren F1
Koenniggsegg
Porsche 911
Pagani Zonda
Ferrari Enzo
Audi R8
Jaguar XJ220
These icons will be among some of the amazing and outrageous performance models in The Fast Car Festival’s Supercar Paddock, consisting of members’ rides from the online community phenomenonSupercar Driver. It will showcase feature cars that together are worth millions of pounds, including metal from the magnificent marques Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Lotus and McLaren, as well as other extreme performance models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.
Among them will be some of the most valuable supercars of all time, including a £2-million Ferrari FXX prototype, a Lamborghini Huracan and no less than four McLarens.
Complimenting it will be a Retro Paddock, packed with icons ranging from 60s and 70s classics, as well as retro performance cars from the 80s and 90s.
Former BBC Top Gear and Fifth Gear presenter Tiff Needell will be one of the show’s star guests, and visitors will have the chance to win passenger rides around the famous Donington Park circuit alongside the former F1 ace.
The show will also be well supported by Pistonheads, the online community for performance car fans. The UK-based portal for petrolheads is not only hosting one of its famous ‘Sunday Services’ on the second day of The Fast Car Festival, but will also be putting together a ‘PH Metal’ display bringing together the very best cars that represent the Pistonheads lifestyle.
Not content with simply putting on a show stopping static display, the boys and girls at Pistonheads will also be taking to the Donington circuit for a 30-car Pistonheads members’ track session, wheel-to-wheel, at high speed around the former GP circuit.
The Fast Car Festival is a live, action-based event and will feature cars from all over the world, with the honoured marque for the inaugural event being Lotus, whose models will enjoy a special display area and exclusive track time. Indeed, Nottingham based dealership Central Lotus is officially supporting The Fast Car Festival with models from its showroom and a stand, giving the public the chance to talk all things Lotus with an official dealer.
Yet as well as the cars, the focus is as much on having fun, with a live stage and a full-on festival atmosphere.
Show goers will also be able to take their own vehicle out on the circuit in a number of public track sessions. There’s also the chance for an unforgettable thrill ride, by hopping into the passenger seat of some of the world’s fastest and rarest super cars for a few adrenaline-filled laps of the former F1 circuit.
Away from the thrills and spills of the track, visitors will be able to soak up the atmosphere of the festival, with display cars evoking every great motoring nation and trend from across the world. There will be vast club areas within the infield, where you can browse hundreds of the finest, rarest, fastest and priciest cars around.
Meanwhile, over at the main stage there will be live music and interviews with motoring celebrities, along with an ‘experts’ quiz team, taking on the most knowledgeable show goers in an Eggheads-style challenge.
The main party will get underway on the Saturday night with licensed bars and a brilliant selection of live bands, followed by appearances from club DJs and an evening of party music.
The Fast Car Festival is brought to you by the team behind the world famous TRAX and Japfest events and looks set to be one of the most entertaining, original and enthralling shows in 2016.
