50 years after cars helped launch the Top Trumps phenomenon, the iconic game returns to its motoring roots with a gold Limited Edition pack celebrating 30 extraordinary automobiles
Cars and Top Trumps have gone hand in hand for over half a century.
When Top Trumps first hit British playgrounds in the late 1970s, cars were among the subjects that helped establish the game, with players comparing horsepower, speed and performance to see who was holding the ultimate trump card.
Now, Top Trumps is returning to its motoring roots with the launch of Luxury Cars Top Trumps, a special Limited Edition pack housed in a suitably luxurious gold case.
Priced at £10 RRP, the new pack brings together 30 incredible cars from across the decades, spanning classic American icons, extravagant one-offs and some of the world’s most exclusive modern hypercars.
Players can put the cars head-to-head across five categories: Horsepower, 0 to 60 MPH, Market Value, Luxury and Top Trumps Rating.
Taking the coveted position as the pack’s Top Trump is the 2019 Bugatti La Voiture Noire. With 1,479 horsepower, a 0 to 60 MPH time of just 2.4 seconds and a market value listed at an extraordinary £14 million, it races ahead with the maximum Top Trumps Rating of 100.
But outright speed isn’t everything.
The pack also celebrates some of motoring’s most memorable luxury cars, including the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, the 1952 Hudson Hornet Coupe and the spectacular 1972 Isaac Hayes’ Gold-Plated Cadillac.
The latter certainly puts the “gold” into this Limited Edition. Isaac Hayes’ extravagant Cadillac was transformed into a head-turning creation featuring gold plating, mink carpeting, a refrigerator and even a television.
Each of the 30 cards combines Top Trumps gameplay with facts and stories behind the cars, giving players the chance to discover more about the machines while battling to find out which one comes out on top.
