For one day only, the population of the tiny village of Saint- Saturnin, just north of Le Mans, swells to over four times its usual number thanks to an invasion of classic cars. That day is the Friday before the famous 24-hour race, when the Classic British Welcome attracts around 10,000 visitors and over 1200 cars! From 8am, the air fairly zzes with the rorty rumbling of non-cosseted classics as they queue to get free entry to the 6 acre site. One can stand at the gate (and lots do, once they’ve parked) and see an eclectic melange of almost every classic car (from brand new to very old) you’ve ever imagined; McLaren, Morgan (3 and 4 wheels), Marcos, TVR, Mustang, Nissan, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, MG, Triumph, Toyota, AC, VW, Chevrolet, Mini, Renault, Lotus, Mazda, Jaguar, Ford, BMW, Alpine, Opel and loads of bikes.
