AVI-8 has renewed its collaboration with renowned visual artist Ben Li, also known as Inkdial, in a special release honoring his four-year anniversary in the world of watch illustration. This limited-edition timepiece, the Hawker Hurricane Inkdial Chronograph, seamlessly merges traditional watchmaking with Ben’s unique illustration style.
About Ben Li and Inkdial
Ben Li, a UK-based visual artist, has carved out a niche within the watch industry with his intricate watch illustrations, primarily crafted using markers and pens. Born in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Ben’s journey into the world of horology began during his time at a jewelry design studio, but it was during the 2020 lockdown that his passion for drawing watches truly flourished, giving rise to his online identity, Inkdial.
“I was really into it. It was an amazing and very Zen project to do!” says Ben, reflecting on the therapeutic process of sketching watches. His detailed, symmetrical designs have led to collaborations with prestigious brands such as IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, G-SHOCK, and BRABUS. With over 300 pieces to his name, Ben’s reputation in watch illustration continues to expand.
The Collaboration
AVI-8 was the first brand Ben sketched, making this collaboration particularly meaningful. Following the success of last year’s limited-edition artwork for the Hawker Hurricane Classic Chronograph’s packaging, AVI-8 and Ben decided to deepen their partnership this year by creating a watch that captures Inkdial’s unique aesthetic.
This new release celebrates the four-year anniversary of Inkdial with a special touch: the number “4” on the dial glows in a distinctive green lume, symbolizing Ben’s journey and artistry.
